Red Bull Pro National For Michael Phillips
14/09/2009 20:50:46

Event: Red Bull Pro Nationals 6th and final round

Venue: Wakes Colne

Team: DB Racing Honda

Class: MX2

Results: Moto1 2nd, Moto2 5th

Overall day: 3rd

It was the final round of the Red Bull pro Nationals and it just happened to be down the road at the Cakes Colne track near Essex.

They had done a great job of preparing the track that had some nice table tops and a few other fun sections. There was a mixture of dirt's on the track from sticky clay to loamy dirt that made things more interesting and lots of lines in some sections and only one or two in others.

Qualifying went alright but for some reason they cut our time short and I thought I had a few more laps left. I qualified 15th.

Due to racing the pro riders all together (mx1 and mx2) it was even more important to get a good start as the mx1 riders wouldn't move out your way even though we are pointed separately.

Moto1:

I got a good jump out the gates and hang off the back of the bike up the grassy hill start. I managed to come around the first corner in the top 5 or 6 and pushed hard for the first few laps. I was sitting in 6th but the 1st mx2 rider.

I got passed by Suzuki rider Martin Barr but a few laps latter he took a hard fall and was out of the race. I moved back into 1st mx2 but a charge from Par Honda rider Scott Elderfield put me back to 2nd. I followed a few of his lines and was able to catch him back up. There was only a few laps left and I wasn't able to get close enough. I finished 2nd mx2 and 5th in the race.

Moto2:

I got a top 10 start but pushing my way through on the first lap I got cross rutted and went down. I got back up quickly and started the charge back through the pack. I felt good on my DB Racing Honda and had some good lines going but it was still tough work passing the mx1 guys. I managed to get into 10th and 5th mx2 by the end of the race.

Overall it was a good day and I had fun. The track was tricky and reminded me of my track in NZ.

It was a great day for the team to have Nev and me on the podium and also a good day for Honda with Eldifield on the podium also.

We have a weekend off now before the last round of the British Championship held at the Landrake track down south west of England.

Again a big thanks to the team and Dav for pitting for me.

Cheers, Mike
